USEFUL INFORMATIONS FOR TOURISTS

                          for those who have come to Nepal for the first time it will be helpful for them to have some general Knowledge of this Himalayan Kingdom . 

Nepal is the only Hindu Kingdom in the world . Nepal has its own glorious values , culture and traditions . Visitors should respect its culture and traditions and follow some etiquette while visiting this country .

 

 Religious And Social Etiquettes 

         In Nepal shoes are considered the most degrading part of your dress .Therefore , they should be removed before entering any temple, monastery or sacred places . Follow the example of your host in deciding whether to remove your shoes before entering a Nepali home .

              Non- Hindus are not allowed to enter into some temples such as Pasupati Nath  Of  Kathmandu  . In Temple area it is traditional to walk around the stupa or temple in a clockwise direction . Keep the religious places , buildings and prayer walls on your right when you pass by them . 

             Head is supposed to be the most sacred part of the body . you should not touch it.

                Begging must be discouraged . help the people to become self-respecting .

                Photography is generally allowed  outside Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines at ceremonies and festivals . Ask for permission to take photographs inside temples . For blind belief  and personal modesty some people do not like to be photographed . Respect their desires . But if you talk with them for a while , they may be ready to be photographed. 

 

Artifacts 

                  It is illegal to remove any valuable old items for their origins. Transporting idols and artifacts of archeological value is prohibited . you should obtain permit from the archaeological Department , Kathmandu  to export them . Therefore keep it in mind while purchasing old art and craft objects in the hills. 

 

Health

                    Be careful about your health . Untreated water , uncooked vegetables and unripe fruits are not safe to eat . Drink boil water . stick to bottled  water or treat water with an iodine derivative .

 

Food 

                     Most Nepalese eat ' Daal Vaat ' twice a day . It comprises of rice .Lentils and vegetable. At road-side hotels , you can get this dish easily . In the hotels Dal - Vaat is usually supplied with fresh goat meat, chicken meet etc. According to Nepalese standard Dat- vaat and meat is the common dish in the hotels .  

                      In breakfast and tiffin People usually take tea . tea is prepared with milk and sugar . you can see tea shops at roadsides . 

                       In road side hotels, resturants you can have chowmine, momos, and "xole- samosa" dishes as day breakfast  .
